An Audiologist is a university qualified hearing health care professional with a post graduate degree in Audiology. They specialize in all non medical aspects of hearing impairment. An Audiometrist holds a TAFE certificate in the assessment of hearing and the fitting of hearing aids. An Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Doctor specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of medical problems. What is a sensorineural hearing loss? | Print |  E-mail
A sensorineural loss is a hearing impairment where the source of the problem is in the inner ear or auditory nerve. May sometimes be referred to as nerve deafness. It is caused by lesions of the hair cells in the cochlea and the neurons of the auditory part of the VIIIth cranial nerve.

A conductive loss is a hearing impairment where the source of the problem is the outer or middle ear. It is caused by a lesion of the conductive mechanism.
What is tinnitus and what causes it? | Print |  E-mail
Tinnitus is a ringing or other sound perceived in the ear usually only heard by the affected person. There are many causes of tinnitus including hearing loss (particularly noise-induced), ear disease, stress, or neck, jaw or teeth problems.
